About this work
"Beauty of Women, Rani" is part of Kushal Bastakoti's ongoing meditation on the women of his upbringing — those who held tradition and modernity in the same hand without ever letting either go. The figure occupies the canvas with the certainty of someone who has nothing to prove. The medium itself — layered, textured, refusing to settle into one technique — mirrors the layered identity of the subject.
Painted over six months in 2024, "Rani" is the largest figurative work in the artist's current collection. It was first exhibited at Show №08 (Undefined) and acquired into the gallery's permanent rotation following.
